LCDW April Meeting

Join us for our monthly membership meeting on Saturday April, 4th at 10AM!

Gary Schotz from Fair Vote Illinois will give a presentation about rank choice voting: what it is, how is works, where it's already being implemented, and its status here in Illinois. With RCV, voters cast a single ballot and rank candidates in the order they prefer (first choice, second choice, third choice, and so on). Voters’ first choices are then counted. If a candidate receives a majority of first-choice votes, meaning more than 50%, that candidate wins. If no candidate has a majority of first-choice votes, the race is decided by an “instant runoff” (RCV is also known as Instant-Runoff Voting, or IRV).

*Stick around after the meeting for the opportunity to socialize and create a personalized craft with the help of our wonderful leader of Stitch ‘n’ Bitch.

This event takes place at the LCDW Office. 10 N Lake St Suite 101 Grayslake IL

LCDW March Membership Meeting

Join LCDW members for our March Meeting on Saturday, March 7th at 10AM.

Ed Yohnka is the long-time Director of Communications and Public Policy for the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois (ACLU). As the primary spokesperson for the state’s largest civil rights and civil liberties organization, Yohnka will discuss current threats to civil liberties, including abuse of power by the federal government, and steps that the ACLU is taking to challenge these abuses. He also will highlight concerns about efforts by the federal government and the White House to meddle with state-run elections, a move seemingly designed to limit access to the ballot for millions of Americans. From urging the Congress to pass the SAVE Act – which could disenfranchise millions of eligible American voters – and public discussions about “taking over” state-run elections in jurisdictions that have not supported the President in past elections.

This event takes place at the LCDW Office 10 N Lake St Suite 101 Grayslake, IL. Additional parking available across the street.
